Patients with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) and inadequately controlled blood pressure were selected from practice electronic medical records and invited to participate in the pilot study. Individuals whose systolic blood pressure surpassed 130 mmHg were randomly allocated to a self-monitoring or standard care group. Blood pressure was meticulously measured twice daily for three days, within a seven-day cycle every month, part of the self-monitoring strategy, supported by text message prompts.
